Tipper Truck Winter Maintenance Guide
date:2026-01-07
As the
temperature gradually decreases, the low-temperature environment in winter
places higher requirements on the performance and reliability of dump trucks.
In order to ensure the safe operation of HOWO dump trucks, SHACMAN dump trucks
and other models in cold climates, extend their service life and reduce failure
rates, this "Winter Maintenance Guide for Dump Trucks" is specially
formulated. Personnel in relevant positions are requested to strictly implement
the following maintenance measures to jointly ensure the winter attendance rate
and operational safety of dump trucks.

1. Engine system
maintenance
- Replace engine
oil in winter: Use engine oil with low viscosity and suitable for
low-temperature environments (such as 5W-30 or 0W-40) to ensure smooth cold
start of the dump truck.
- Check the
antifreeze: Make sure the freezing point of the antifreeze is more than 10°C lower than the local minimum temperature to
prevent the cooling system of the HOWO dump truck or SHACMAN dump truck from
freezing. It is recommended to replace it every two years.
- Preheat the
engine: Preheat for 3 to 5 minutes before starting to prevent the dump truck
from running at high speed when the cold engine is cold and reduce wear.
2. Fuel system
maintenance
- Use winter
diesel: Dump trucks in northern areas should use No. 10 or No. 20 diesel to
prevent fuel from solidifying and causing blockage.
- Add
anticoagulant: Diesel anticoagulant can be added to the dump truck fuel tank to
prevent waxing.
- Keep the fuel
tank full: Reduce air humidity entering the dump truck fuel tank to prevent
condensation from freezing.

3. Tires,
brakes, and hydraulic systems
- Check the tire
pressure and wear: the tire pressure of the dump truck is easy to decrease at
low temperatures and needs to be replenished in time.
- Check whether
the brake pads and brake pipes are leaking or aging to ensure that the dump
truck braking system is sensitive and reliable.
- Special
attention should be paid to the lifting cylinder and hydraulic oil of the dump
truck:
- Use hydraulic oil with good low-temperature
fluidity (such as L-HV46 anti-wear hydraulic oil).
- After starting, perform several no-load
test lifts to allow the hydraulic oil of the HOWO dump truck or SHACMAN dump
truck to fully circulate and heat up before starting the operation.

Winter is a
period when special vehicles such as dump trucks are prone to breakdowns.
Scientific maintenance can not only improve vehicle reliability, but also
effectively prevent safety accidents. All teams are requested to strictly
implement the requirements in this maintenance guide for HOWO dump trucks,
SHACMAN dump trucks and other models, and flexibly adjust the maintenance cycle
based on actual working conditions to ensure that each dump truck survives the
winter safely and efficiently.
